Quantitative Research:
This research tends to have numerical answers. These can be things such as statistics, percentages etc. These results can be put into graphs and tables to easily visualise these results and quickly find answers or information.
This type of research could be carried out to find out of the audience enjoyed a product or not, and this can then be put into a graph and adjustments for future projects can be made.
Qualitative Research:
This research often receives answers which are in depth and consist of a lot of words, rather than just a few or a short phrase. This can be opinions of what a member of the audience thinks of a subject or product.
This can be used to received in depth opinions about a product, find out the good sides and the bad sides, which would help to improve the next product released, and attract and please the audience.
Secondary Research:
This research means that the information gathered was from another source, such as the internet. This is information which someone else has already gathered and gives out for others to use. Secondary research can be found almost everywhere, including magazines, newspapers and government statistics.
This is a fast and easy method to gather information, and doesn't require you to ask people individually to gather this information.
Primary Research:
This is research which you have collected yourself, this can be done by asking people's individual opinions on something, questionnaires, surveys etc.
This resource is reliable as it was gathered by yourself, so you know it wasn't manipulated by anyone. You can also choose the exact questions or information you want to receive as you get the opportunity to ask yourself. This can be a time consuming and expensive process, however the results are reliable and can be used again in the future.
Audience Research:
This research focuses on gathering information about your target audience, to find out their interest or habits, in order to maximise the positive feedback and even the reached target. This can be vital for music stations and you need to know the music your audience enjoys otherwise they won't be tuning in.
This research can be conducted via surveys or questionnaires to gather a range of information from you audience, and their opinions on current, or soon to be released content.
Market Research:
This is important to conduct as it will give you an idea of the current market and what is selling and doing well and what isn't and why. This can include things such as price, reviews etc. This can help to know how much your target audience is willing to pay or do in order to watch/use your product.
Production Research:
This is very important research when it comes to marketing and distribution. The methods used must match the actual product as much as possible in order to not disappoint the audience. For example if something is portraying a horror genre but in fact its a comedy, then both sides, horror fans will be disappointed and leave negative feedback and comedy fans will miss out as they thought it was a horror genre production.
